Twin Mauler ROV-20 Anti-Aircraft Laser Cannon

Two rapid-firing laser weapons, capable of firing 6000 pulses per minute. Mounted under the nose in Fighter and GERWALK modes, and on a head turret in Battroid mode.

Howard GU-11 55mm 3-Barrel Gatling Gun Pod

Rapid-firing rifle-type weapon, mounted under central fuselage in Fighter mode, and hand-held in GERWALK and Battroid mode.

NP-AR-01 Micro-Missile Launcher Pod

Extra 6-missile tubes mounted on the arms in Battroid and GERWALK mode, and facing rearward under the central section in Fighter mode.

UUM-7 15-Tube Micro-Missile Pod

Signature Macross missiles. Fires a swarm of small missiles that track enemies, and defeat defenses through sheer numbers. Each pod is mounted on a Hardpoint.

HMMP-02 Micro-Missile Launcher Pods

A pair of larger micro-missile pods, mounted on the back in Battroid and GERWALK mode, and on the top in Fighter mode. The pods are attached to the primary boosters.

AMM-1 Hybrid Guided Multi-Purpose Missiles

Larger guided missiles intended to be used against slower, more armoured targets. 3 missiles can mounted on each wing Hardpoint.

Mauler RO-X2A High-Powered Double-Action Beam Cannon Pod

A pair of high-powered beam cannons that can be mounted in place of one of the HMMP-02 Micro-Missile Launcher Pods.

Mk.82 LDGB Conventional Bomb

Large, dumb-fire bombs, intended to be used on stationary ground targets. 3 bombs can be mounted on each wing Hardpoint.

RMS-1 Large Anti-Ship Reaction Missile

Missiles that make use of a pair-annihilation reaction using Overtechnology. Basically a clean, more-powerful nuclear weapon. 2 missiles are mounted on the furthest out wing Hardpoint, and 1 can be mounted on the inner wing Hardpoint.

All-Out Attack

Signature Valkyrie attack. The unit unloads with every weapon it has, hoping to take out the enemy with overwhelming firepower.

Skull Formation Attack

A signature combination attack of the famous Skull Squadron from Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Three planes swoop around the targets, unloading with their guns, missiles, and Reaction weapons.

Countermeasures

Variable Fighters have a variety of countermeasure systems to help them avoid attacks, from chaff to flares.

Battroid Mode

The Variable Fighter takes on the form of a humanoid robot. This form is best able to take advantage of terrain, and has full access to the unit's weapons, but can't cover as much ground as it can in Fighter mode.

Fighter Mode

The Variable Fighter takes on the form of a fighter jet, granting increased movement speed and agility, but makes it harder to engage the enemy as it must keep moving. A skilled pilot can get around this limitation by transforming their Variable Fighter at exceptional speeds.

GERWALK Mode

Stands for Ground Effective Reinforcement of Winged Armament with Locomotive Knee-joint. The Variable Fighter takes on a "half-way" form, taking on aspects of the other modes; able to hover and take cover, but also still has good agility.

Pack Jettison

The added thrusters and missile pods can be ejected should they be no longer necessary, or to confuse enemies.

Hardpoints

Each wing on the VF-1D has 2 hardpoints for mounting optional weapons.

Pilot Seats

As the VF-1D was designed to be a combat trainer, at least partially, it has room for a co-pilot to help control the Variable Fighter.

Information

In order to improve the performance of the VF-1 line towards the end of the war with the Zentradi, UN Spacy developed a set of add-on boosters and weapons that could be mounted on their existing fleet of Variable Fighters. Referred to as Fuel Armor Sensor Tactical Packs, or FASTpacks, these systems allowed the VF-1s to continue to keep up with the newer Zentradi ships.

In both the original TV series and the movie, very few Super Valkyries were seen other then the VF-1S Super Valkyrie (TV) and the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie (Movie), but due to the nature of the packs, they are usable on all VF-1s.
