Overview

Cosmic Era 70. Humanity is split between natural born humans and genetically engineered Coordinators living in the colonies. Hatred for the Coordinators brings the Earth Alliance to unleash nuclear devestation upon the colonies, sparking a war between the Alliance and the colony's military force, ZAFT. ZAFT quickly retaliates by unleashing N-Jammers upon the Earth, making nuclear reactions impossible, and they swiftly overcome the Alliance's mobile armors.

On the neutral Heliopolis Colony, the Earth Alliance secretly develops five experimental Gundams. Learning of this, ZAFT launches an operation to capture the mobile suits. Caught in the crossfire is Kira Yamato, secretly a coordinator. As ZAFT steals four of the five mobile suits, Kira is confronted by his old friend Athrun Zala. The only one capable of piloting the last remaining Gundam, the Strike, Kira must now protect his friends aboard the battleship Archangel. But his and Athrun's encounter will have long lasting reprecussions for ZAFT and the Alliance.

A moderization of the original Gundam series, Gundam SEED was, and still is, notable for being one of the most popular series in the franchise. It spawned a series of sidestory manga, Gundam SEED Astray, a trio of compilation movies, and eventually a sequel series: Gundam SEED Destiny. Also had an HD Rerelease in 2012 to celebrate the series' 10th anniversary.
