Amid a war in the Earth Sphere, aliens known as the Einst attack, wanting to restart what they see as a flawed world.

Super Robot Wars Compact 2 was originally released in three games for the Japan-exclusive handheld system Wonderswan. Later it would be compiled on the Playstation 2 using the Alpha Gaiden engine as Super Robot Wars Impact, which also added Martian Successor Nadesico and Mobile Fighter G Gundam into the cast list.

Compact 2 is notable for being the first single game with multiple releases, for being the first Super Robot Wars with Support Attack and Defense, and for introducing the popular characters of Kyousuke Nanbu and Excellen Browning. Impact is notable for being the first Super Robot Wars game for the Playstation 2, and for being very very long (since it is actually three games).

While Super Robot Wars Compact 3 would be made it was not a direct sequel to this game, nor is this game a direct sequel to Super Robot Wars Compact, the name instead referring to its release on the Wonderswan. Kyousuke Nanbu and Excellen Browning would later be imported into Super Robot Wars Original Generation and this game's plot would be used in Original Generation 2.
