Alterative IV: Operation Ouka

After years of preparation and learning from the failures of previous Alternative Plans against the ZergBETA, the time has finally come to strike right into the heart of the invasion force itself: the Original Hive. God knows what other horrors lurk down there other than what mankind has already fought for thirty or so years, but this will be the operation that will either put a stop to the BETA for good... or force mankind to go with Alternative V: leave the Earth for good and search for a hospitable planet to live while some of Mankind is left there to fight the BETA to the bitter end.

The UN has dispatched their greatest weapon: the Susanoo Yongata, a unit that is specifically designed to take out entire Hives. But their trump card lies not in its destructive power, but in the pilot it carries.

It's your job to make sure she survives the trip.

Victory Condition: Escort the Susanoo Yongata until it reaches the core of the BETA Hive

Defeat Condition: The Susanoo Yongata is destroyed.

Or actually, maybe you shouldn't brag about that too hard, there's enough problems trying to get the mission started as it is.

Muv-Luv Altnerative Episode 10.5: The Altered Fable

December 31, 2001.

Operation Ouka.

The turning point in the war between humans and the malevolent amoral race known as the BETA.

At least, that's what it was supposed to be.

Raiding the Original Hive. The focal point of all of Earth's BETA outbreaks. If we can somehow find a way in and either destroy whats inside or finally find a way to communicate with them using Sumika, then maybe this madness will stop.

To be honest, I'm not even sure why I'M here. Couldn't someone else take Sumika there? Or was there something more to that whole "Quantum Theory of Causality" that Professor Kouduki was talking about?

Either way, I've done this scenario a couple of times before already. This time... this time, things will be different. Maybe this time, I can-

"Shirogane, we have incoming communications," Kasumi softly said, pulling Takeru out of his reverie.

"From Mission Command?" he asked.

"Actually, no. It's from... eh?"

The radio crackled to life and Professor Kouduki's voice came on the line. "Squad A-01, it seems that there's been a change of plans. You are to hold your position. You're not going in via your Reentry Destroyer HSST. You are instead rendezvousing with another unit."

"Eh?... R-Roger," Sakaki's voice sounded over the radio. "Who's picking us up?"

"... You'll see her in a moment."

Everyone in the Izumi Valkyries suddenly felt some kind of strange presence, as if some kind of massive object had just decided to sneak up on them from behind. In fact the radar started blaring in warning from the sudden appearance of the massive object.

Takeru turned to see what it was, and... his jaw dropped.

"I... have no idea. Our IFF doesn't have this thing registered, but it's showing up on our radar with the unit designation of-"

"... SDF... O-wait, what?" Takeru murmured inaudibly over the radio.

"Eh? N-No..." Takeru nervously said.

And yet, he had to ask hiself... What the hell was a SDF-1 M*cross doing in this place!? Wasn't that just from a TV show!? Or did they really have the technology to make something like this!?...

"... On the side, Jun," someone else answered. This other voice sounded somewhat younger, yet deeper and more authoritative than the previous one.

"Ah, thanks. *ahem* Attention, Izumi Valkyrie Squad A-01! This is Captain Watarase Jun of the UN Megadestroyer SDF-1. Please board the Eucharis on the left and don't mind the fact that it seems to be holding on to the main ship with duct tape, it's mainly for decoration. You'll be meeting up with the rest of your new squadmates."

"EH!?" everyone gasped. "New squadmates!? We weren't informed of this!" Sakaki added.

"Yeah, I know. Sorry about the last minute change, but we figured that it would at least increase your chances of survival. You'll be fighting alongside some of the best pilots in the Sim-"

"Ahem."

"- err, United Nations. They're here to assist you in any way possible before we begin attacking the Hive. I apologize if Professor Kouduki was unable to inform you of the details before you took off."

"... I see," Sakaki said, but the rest of the team could tell that she was still suspicious. "We'll be on board in five minutes."

"Excellent. We will brief everyone when you get on board," she said before signing off.

As expected, questions came up over the private channel. "New Squadmates? What the heck is going on here?! And since when did we have one of those things!?" Tamase panicked.

"Tamase, please stop trying to poke my machine's chest. It doesn't work that way," Ayamine calmly said.

"Hauuuu~"

"Maybe this was a top secret ship?" Yoroi quipped.

"Even so, for them to hide something like this for so long..." Meiya muttered.

"Knock it off, guys, especially you, Tamase! Let's just calm down. Keep yourselves on guard," Sakaki warned everyone. "I don't like how casual they seem about all of this."

"Roger," they all said.

Still, Takeru couldn't shake off the weird feeling that something was amiss when they entered the hangar and it shut closed behind them; even Sumika shuddered from within her shell. All they could do was disembark and wait for these impromptu teammates to show up.


MEANWHILE...

"... What the hell are you doing?" Aisia sighed.

"Raping Sumika's mind via remote," said a girl with black ribbons on her hair while looking like she was trying to concentrate on something. She was holding a mic that had a label that said "Kouduki Yuuko" taped on its base.

"... Well, this part is up to the rest of our players," Jun chuckled. "Initiating Rear-entry procedures!"

"That's RE-ENTRY!" Aisia groaned.


"Attention, all pilots," Jun said over the overhead comm as the Susanoo Yongata and its escort HSST docked inside the Eucharis' hangar and their pilots got out to meet the rest of the team. The Izumi Valkyries merely blinked at the array of other mecha that was in the hangar, namely the planes. "Who uses such antiquated equipment" were some of the murmurs that rolled across the squad, unaware that everyone here was literally from another world.

"We will commence attack on the hive in three post cycles," Jun contiunued. "Players, your job at this point is simple: Pair up with one Izumi Valkyrie squad member and convince them to buddy up with you, as well as get them to replace their Takemikazuchi with any of the five spares. You don't get to replace the Susanoo, sadly. It can be your spare, it can be someone else's spare, but you have to convince them somehow. We don't have much time, so get to it! And Miyuki, please tell Maki that you cannot rename yourselves Atilla the Huns. Or Puns. And no, Lulu, you can't use the Geass, that would be cheating."

The first Mave, assigned to Miyuki, came to life, as if it had a will of it's own. Well, considering the near sentient combat AI known as Yukikaze that was aboard, it may well have indeed had such a thing. Inlets opened downwards, and several thousand pounds of thrust slowly lifted the plane off the ground, noise still horizontal, as it slowly rose upward. Though, in the confined space, the jetwash would make the room windy from the rush of air being used by the engines. Very windy. Enough in fact, that it was lifting Ashley's skirt and she had to use her hands to keep it down.

It continued to rise for a few moments, finally reaching sufficient ground clearance for it's legs to deploy downwards.

[MODE - BATTROID]

On their own accord, the legs dropped downwards, and the whole machine began to shift into it's more humanoid 'battroid' mode, one that seemed to more closely resemble the Tactical Walkers.

As if to further emphasise it's superiority, the Yukikaze's head turned towards the group, and sent a wave down to the Valkyries with it's free hand.

'Tch ! Do you think I would stoop that low, Captain ?'

A miniscule vein popped up from the side of his temples as the man muttered those words under his breath.

Ascending from the black machine, Gawain was a dark-haired man, clad in a black pilot suit very much similar to what Tactical Machine pilots always wear. Somehow, the muscles shown by the conforming suit didn't seem to match the fragile appearance given by his facial features.

"My new comrades, please be assured that these machines are in no way inferior to your top-of-the-line Type-00s. As 2nd Lt. Takamachi, here has demonstrated, each and every machine here has their own strengths." The man spoke with his deep voice, in a cool, reassuring manner.

"Ahaha, so it really is like Professor Kouzuki said ! Takeru's here !"

A higher pitched voice soon followed, as a much shorter figure descended from the black machine, clad in a similarly patterned pilot suit. Much to the Isumi Valkyries' suprise, it was someone who looked like none other than one of their own, Yoroi Mikoto.

"..and everyone else too ! and another me ! This is pretty interesting, ahaha. I can't believe you left me out of this all this time, Takeru !"

"I formally welcome the Isumi Valkyries to the Euchari- hmm.. no, for now it is dubbed as the Yatagarasu. A fitting name for our role." The man pondered for a bit, apparently over some script he received some hours earlier.

"I am Lt. Lelouch Lamperouge, captain of this fast assault vessel... and I believe 2nd Lt. Shirogane may already know my comrade here, 2nd Lt. Yoroi Mikoto well." He motioned to Mikoto.

The shorter blue-haired boy(?) waved back. "Just call him Lulu for short !"

"I believe that kind of familiarity is inappropriate for this occasion." Lelouch coughed, slightly irritated. "..anyway, back to the matters at hand.."

"This Gawain has been with me through the worst of many battles. Although we had not received much information to tune it to your tastes, please be assured that it is quite a reliable machine. It is much tougher than any third-generation Tactical Machine, and won't lose to any second-generations in agility. I have also installed a barrier system into the machine, much like a low powered version of the one present on the Susanooh, only much safer and efficient. Furthermore, you will find that the weapons and systems to be quite formidable. Despite its size, the Hadron Cannons onboard the Gawain has firepower equal to about 50-60% of the Particle Cannons carried by the Susanooh." Lelouch explained about his trusty Knightmare. No one here really needs to know what a Knightmare is as long as they know that it works, so he purposely left that part out.

"2nd Lt. Yoroi and I shall personally instruct any who will express further interest the Gawain." He then announced before taking the Isumi Valkyries to the other pilots and their machines. "Before you make your decisions, why don't we all hear about what the other pilots shall say about the units they brought."

'Ugh, wearing this pilot suit makes me want to just put on a helmet !' Lelouch shakes the urge to grab for his Zero helmet out of his mind. 'That so called 'Fairy of Time' better makes good on her end of the deal... putting I, the one once known as 'The Demon Lord' through this..'

“Because it’s Brave!” Came an erstwhile response from somewhere soon after Yoroi commented on the obvious fact that the Ototaku was a giant mechanical lion, which does look out of place among the other mechanized units of war the other Players brought with them on this endeavor.

On top of the head of the aforementioned lion mech, a young man in a distinctively red pilot and gold pilot suit stood, apparently appearing from out of nowhere since he wasn’t there before, looking down at the gathered Valkyries with a toothy grin on his face.

“Toh!” He yelled as he proceeded to jump off the Ototaku’s head, spinning in mid air with a few twists and turns for good measure before finally landing on the deck with a roll and stood up in one fluid motion before the Valkyries without any hint of pain or injury as one would expect to get after jumping off from a height higher than five meters.

“You should understand it too, don’t you? You’re a man too right?” Hajime said excitedly while pointing towards Yoroi of the Valkyries, all the while being sorely inattentive to the pilot he was talking to's certain assets. “Lions are a man’s romance! They’re a symbol of heroic courage, the Beast of Chances!”

Off to one side, Hajime also heard very clearly a certain neko-mimi having something akin to fear about the machines presented in front of them.

“Don’t worry, the Ototaku isn’t a scary machine!” Hajime responded with as much gusto he can muster in his voice to convince the pink cat-girl. “It might look mean to you, but it’s meant to scare the enemies it faces: even those BETAs might think twice about attacking an angry lion on a rampage once you get into its cockpit!”

Lorenzo rode the wire down from the cockpit of the Zaku. The thing was repainted in a dull gray and brown color scheme befitting of desert operations. It was a blasted improvement over hot pink. Lorenzo didn't fit in. Command only sent him because he was the most experienced in the group, and even then, not by much. Compared to everyone here, he wasn't better than any of em. Dressed in a standard UNSC vacuum suit, standard UNSC Marine Desert Camouflage Uniform, he didn't exactly approach anyone. Why?

Well, for one, he wasn't even mentioned earlier, and for another, he wasn't given a spare unit. So the best he can do is keep his mech in top condition. While they went to show off why their mechs were on par with this universe's mecha, he pulled up another tab on his data pad, and went to work performing routine maintenance on the Beam Assault Rifle.

"as you already heard... i don't think i need to explained anymore of this that you called Planes. --- despite having a different production name, they are basically almost the same, or maybe it could also be considered as a standard version of the powerful 190th Squad version" a short female figure approach them from behind and voicing her piece. she was indeed childish in her appearance, rather small and pretty much undeveloped body, her outfit is showing not much a different than her image. a simple white striped one piece, with black high socks and an arm long gloves with the same color, that and not to mention her black hat with a cat ear pointed distinctively. her long brown hair waves as she walks with a steady pace toward the crowds, and she quite a different as she didn't really wears any of those military uniform nor a tight vacuum flight suit.

"i don't wanna go 'science content' about thing planes, but to put it simple, just a standard Yukikaze can provide more survivability then your current tactical unit, not to mention that they possess more fire power" Kozue sighed, convincing this girl to use something that not quite familiar with them will probably be a hard work, but if they won't use this unit the team provided, then there's a chance that they will die horribly. or not. "this one is a standard non modified unit" She said while pointing toward the non activated Yukikaze. "even so, it has couple rounds of reaction missiles that can guarantee a nice firework show"

Young Kozue crossed her arms in front of her flat chest as she watch carefully the Izumi Valkyries, although mostly the breast part. a clear different of size really put her in a rather mixes feeling between annoyed and jealousy. She sigh deeply as she decides to ignored that intimidating 'attribute' of the izumi girls.

"now since i already explained mine... i wanna ask some question" her eyes looks very serious and her expression were nothing like she would asking a normal question.

"did anyone here know how many Duct tape they used to stick this Eucharis to the SDF?"

"Hey, don't underestimate this baby just because it has a staff instead of something like a sword." Rin said with a wide smile as he patted the Alcyone Caduceus's armor. "Anything can be used as a powerful weapon as long as you have the skill and the know how to put it to use! Besides, this thing can deflect swords and other projectiles with the best of 'em."

"Thanks Rin, I'll take over from here." Kimberly said with a wave, walking over to where the Aura Warrior and Ayamine were talking. "Feel free to head back to base and enjoy yourself."

"I do believe I will." Rin smirked, rubbing his hands together and grinning. "I hear we just got that new fighter game. Super Ultimate Extreme Street Fighter 10? I can't wait to start kicking ass at that."

"I'm going to murder you when I get back." Kimberly mumbled under her breath, shooting a dark look at Rin as he walked off to a less occupied area of the duct tape ship in order to teleport back to base. Quickly putting a smile on her face, she spun and faced Ayamine and held out a hand for her to shake. "I dunno if you know, but I'm Kimberly Zune Nataly. It'll be a pleasure to work with you all during this mission and I hope it turns out to be a success for all of us. That's what I'm here, anyway. And like my associate said, the Alcyone Caduceus is pretty strong despite its looks. It has several ways to cripple your enemies and wear them down and its fairly useful against fast and tough enemies. Probably could take much more punishment than the things you're using, that's for sure. It can also function as a support unit as well. I might have used it, except it's really not in my style...a little too heavy and slow for my tastes, unfortunately. We did install some modifications on it though, especially some new thrusters which should give it a delightful mobility boost as well as some enhanced sensor programs which'll make sure it hits anything it aims at. Well...close to that."

"And if that's not in your tastes, one of you HAS to take one of the Yukikazes the others brought aboard. Sure, they might look primitive, but they're fast, have a very nice assortment of weapons and enough special equipment to outfit a standard mobile base. Think of them as a hidden surprise for the enemies!" She grinned.

"Anyway, I bet you're tired of me being some sort of used mech salesman, so let's move on to something else." Kimberly pulled out her iPod and placed one of the earbuds in her ear. "You listen to music much?"

Chizuru stopped when she saw what looked like one earphone tucked in the girl's ear. "... What the hell are you doing, Ayamine!? Are you trying to make us look bad!?"

"... What? I wanted to hear this music Kimberly was talking about," Kei said nonchalantly. "It's kind of amazing that America still has some kind of semblance of civilization as opposed to the wasteland of the BETA-infested Middle East."

The glasses girl sighed. She really wanted to argue with her over this - Kei was sort of weird in a way - but perhaps this was her way of coping and getting ready for this mission too, by fraternizing with the people she was going to team up with.

After all, there was the nagging feeling on the back of everyone's minds that some of them will not survive.

"... Our third pilot is Unit-00 itself," Takeru said with a slightly obvious distaste in his use of the name "Unit-00". "She's in there right now, resting. She's supposed to be the key to figuring out what the objective of the BETA is, other than the blatantly obvious."

"... Well, now that that's out of the way. Even if these units are state of the art - if slightly absurd in design," Chizuru said while taking a sideways glance at the Ototaku, "There's still the issue of how easy they are to use. We're all used to the controls for our Tactical Machines."

"Well, the ones on the Yukikaze look the same," Miki said. "I think it'll be okay if I keep it in walker mode. That half chicken mode thing looks useful too!"

"... I'm still wary of using one of those," Meiya said. "They don't have the Type-97 Longsword. At the very least that Alcyone has a staff, but..."

"Well, I suppose I can take the other Yukikaze then, unless someone else wants it. What about you, Yoroi?" Chizuru said.

"... I might take it. If Miki-san says that the controls are the same, it should be easy, right? Besides, I'm not too keen on using the Lion thing. Not to mention its owner called me a guy," Mikoto said with tears in her eyes.

"... Fine, I'll take the Otosomething," Kei said. "It looks funny, anyway."

"... Somehow, I expected that of you," Chizuru sighed. "But you're not even sure what it can do!"

"It's a goddamn lion. I think that counts for something."

"NO IT DOESN'T!"

Takeru couldn't help but sweatdrop at the odd display of camaraderie between them. It seemed that the introduction of these strange people stirred something in the girls, something that he missed so much.

They all acted just like they were back in his home universe.

Well, at the moment, it seemed that Miki, Mikoto and Kei decided to ditch their Takemikazuchis for something else. That left Chizuru looking at the Gawain and Meiya still over the fence regarding the Alcyone. Maybe if the staff was ditched for something else that she's more used to...

Once more, another announcement rang over the Hangar's PA, but this time a high pitched nasal voice reverberated through the enclosed space. "Allright, now that you've at least got them considering the use of your spares, pick who you want to escort. Show them what you can do! There's a reason why there's six of you after all. That means you too, Panda-kun, so stop fapping over your beam rifle and talk to someone for crying out loud! You've got two post cycles left!"

"... Did you have to put it that way, Ot-KZZZZT."

"Eheh, sorry for getting you in trouble there, Kei. Actually, should I call you Ayamine or Kei? It'd be better to know. Don't want to offend or anything." Kimberly chuckled, a light embarrassed blush on her cheeks as she heard the squad leader...Sakaki Chizuru or something, yell in their direction. She handed Kei the iPod anyway, offering her the other earbud so she could get the full surround sound experience. "I'll leave this with you for now, though. Seems like you've been missing what good music sounds like, so take your time and look through what I've got in there! Everything you could ever want is in there...classical, techno, rock, whatever you want. Well...not rap, because that isn't music."

"You just better return it when we're done, okay?! I expect to see you back here and telling me how awesome my music collection is!" She challenged with a bright smile. She walked towards another one of the people she would be fighting with...Mitsurugi Meiya, if her memory served her well. She was the one who was considering using the Alcyone, after all, and since it was her spare unit, it was her job to sell it like any good American could! Just had to add a little more polish to it, apparently.

"So you're one of those front line fighters? Nice to meet you. I'll be sure to watch you back out there, okay? Prefer ranged combat, myself." Kimberly said, briefly introducing herself. "Saw you looking at the Alcyone...so you're not that used to the staff, huh? Most of its weapons are actually bombs and stuff, but lets see if we can't make a compromise or something! The unit I'm using, the Armitage, right. It has some Oscillation Blades that I won't be using since...well, like I just said, I can't use melee weapons that well. How about we find some way to transplant those blades onto the Alcyone? Would that resolve your worries about switching units?"

She waited for Meiya's reply as she thought about who she would escort. Escort missions really weren't her sort of deal at all...same with defending things, actually, which is why it was so weird that she was always the one deployed when it came to defending people. She liked small, nimble ships, not big, clunky tanks like Selena preferred. Still, if she had to accompany one of these people out onto the field, she'd employ her traditional way of protecting someone by destroying all the enemies first. They couldn't get hurt if there was no one around to hurt them, right?

'I'm a ranged offensive fighter, so should I pair up with Tamase Miki or one of the frontliners to give them support fire? Oh, the choices, the choices. I'll see what everyone else wants to do first and choose accordingly, I guess.'

Lorenzo pulled the spanner just slightly, staring intently at the dial on the datapad. Content at the setting it was in, he only managed to catch the rear end of the message. Sighing, he set the Zaku and Datapad to auto-diagnostic mode and approached the group.

"I'm First Lieutenant Lorenzo Schrödinger, of the Four-Hundred Fifth Marine Mechanized Cavalry Squadron. My unit is the Desert Camo unit over there, and my role in this whole ordeal is...well...defensive and offensive support. My main role is support via song energy enhancements and repair and reloading of ammunition. I can provide covering fire, but for purely defensive purposes only." He said, noting that already it seems that they were all gaining partners before he was. Curse his luck. He'll end up being the one in the front now. Or in the very back. Regardless, he approached the young pink haired pilot, seemingly the long range specialist. He stopped in his tracks, and decided against it. Someone would rather take her up for blocking and defense. Someone brave. He approached Ayamine, the one they called the front line shield.

"Lieutenant, would you like to pair up? I can provide armor and defense enhancements as well as repair and resupply when needed. I can also provide some fire support to take down enemies so your armor won't be worn down as quickly."

"so i guess you'll be using the standard one?" she paused her sentences the control is quite easy especially in ...er... walker mode. and don't worry about dodging bullet to much because I'll be covering you with my Unit..."[/b] Kozue paused a bit, she just remembered that she were supposed to be the one covering for susanoo, however she can't just leave Tamase with a unit that she's not quite familiar with. "oh... i kinda forgot, i supposed to be covering for susanoo, so... i guess i can't be full timer shield for you,..." she continued with a sigh. "but, let's just see what will happen later"

“EHHHHH!?” Hajime cried in shock and utter disbelief when girl Yoroi cried after Hajime had falsely assumed she was a ‘he’, not that he was to blame when she has an androgynous face like that in the first place, and not to mention that her alternative, male counterpart was also there in the flesh, which adds to the overall confusion to Hajime. Still…

“I… I’m sorry!” Hajime apologized to girl!Yoroi, clapping his hands together while bowing. “For the mistake of mistaking your gender, I can only apologize from the bottom of my heart! Punish me if you will, if that’ll make amends!” This he said with a serious, if overly dramatic tone like a certain blue samurai from somewhere, but the effect was that to ease the evident tension hanging in the air around the Valkyries.

Hajime was no fool, despite his current happy-go-lucky nature unlike some of his more serious partners at the moment (with the exception of Kimberly), he was also very aware that this mission of theirs was not a walk in the park either, and going ahead with such a somber mood might be disastrous later on.

Looking back up, Hajime finds he may not have to worry about it so much seeing as how some of them were going along quite well, and that with the knowledge of more numbers on their side, however few they may be still considering what they are going up against, it may even look like a promising outcome waiting for them, even if it seems like wishful thinking.

With a smile, Hajime walks up to the two pilots who will be using the Susanoo Yongata for this run. “I guess you three will be my primary target for this job.” Hajime said to the two and collectively referring to this Unit-00 as well, extending a hand to shake Takeru and Kasumi’s hands. He then thumps his chest with a clenched fist, a sign of resounding confidence coming from him. “Don’t worry, I may not look like it, but I’m a defense specialist, and taking care of all of you is my job, no matter the cost.”

After that was taken care of, Hajime turns and went over to Kei who was having a conversation with Lorenzo about something. What it was, Hajime didn’t care but there is something he needs to do before they set off. “Kei-san, was it? If you’re not busy, I’d like to show you how to control good ol’ Ototaku there before we launch. It’s rather simple really, but I really need to show you some of is special assets so you can maximize its potential.”

"As the captain of what would be considered the closest to a flagship in this operation, it would not do for me to play favourites in ensuring the survival of all participating members.. aside from the defense of the main objective, of course."

"Eh.. ? You're going to end up pretty lonely if you keep being stiff like that."

Mikoto frowned and shook his head.

"Huhu.. huhuhuhu.. naive. Too naive, Mikoto."

"You have it all wrong. As a king- no.. as a MAN, one must seek the strength to protect EVERYTHING he considers important. I modified the ship's barrier system so that we could project it over any nearby allies. In other words, we are capable of shielding everyone ! ..to a certain degree that is." Unable to contain his grin, Lelouch went about his speech rather dramatically.

"So, we're going down the harem route ? You're so bold, Lulu !"

Excited by his own interpretation, Mikoto looks at Lelouch with much admiration.

"Yes ! That is corr- NO ! H-harem.. route ?! What kind of term is that ?!"

'..or rather, why are you talking in EROGE terms ?!' He thought, twitching at Mikoto.

*cough* "...anyway, this ship is capable of automated repairs, so please don't feel reluctant to retreat into the hangar if you're in a pinch. Even if some of the anti-infantry class BETA manage to grab ahold of you, the ship's Batta drones will take care of them as soon as you enter the hangar." Quickly changing the topic, Lelouch points to the racks of mechanical insect-like machines that line the sides of the hangar. Each of them much larger than a man, and look like they could handle any similarly sized BETA sent their way. "We will have these drones take care of as much field repairs as we possibly can as well."

"Poor, Hajime. He got all confused because of me."

Mikoto looks at the guy who's profusely apologizing to the other Yoroi.

"Hmmm... so Mr. Go has volunteered to guard the Susanoo, and I would not place the mission objective behind any other vanguard than him right now... and this ship would be hard-pressed to cover for a ground target against other ground targets. The logical conclusion would be to form a team with one of the aerial-capable units." Lelouch comments after observing Hajime's meet with the Susanoo's three-person crew.

"So we'd go with someone who chooses one of the Yukikaze VFs or the Gawain, right ?"

"Exactly."

Lelouch nods.

"Do wish to see the Gawain's controls, 2nd Lt. Sakaki ?"

Noticing that Chizuru had been staring at the Gawain, Lelouch approached her.

"The main controls are quite simple actually. The dual lever system is a standard even here."

Using a laptop connected to a port the Gawain, Mikoto makes the machine crouch down and the cockpit hatch open. "If you want a course in the Gawain's systems, I'll teach you everything you need to ace in combat, Iinchou !"

"... Iincho? You guys talk a lot like Shirogane..." Chizuru sighed as she looked inside the Gawain. She thought it odd that it had two seats, but maybe it was originally used by both of them. The controls did somewhat look familiar, at least the pilot's seat did. "If this thing has a barrier like you say it does, it would be helpful... And if I'm piloting this thing, it looks like I'll be in your care."

Meanwhile, Mikoto and Miki were given a short briefing on how to use the Yukikazes. Apparently, they really were pretty easy to use, as their controls were just like a Tactical Machine's. For this sortie though, they figured that they would stay in Battroid mode for a while until they got the hang of it. Miki didn't mind in the least that Kozue wouldn't be able to defend her as much as possible, but that was okay as long as the Susanoo was protected as well. Mikoto likewise found herself somewhat secure with Miyuki flying alongside her, and forgave Hajime for calling her a boy. Apparently that sort of thing happened quite often around Takeru.

"Replace the staff for your swords? That sounds reasonable," Meiya said. "If you're fine without those blades, then I'll make sure they're not wasted. If anything, we should also partner together if that's the case. It seems only right, after all."

"And well, since you put it that way, I'll make sure to survive so that I can give this back to you," she chuckled back before pocketing the iPod and turning to Lorenzo. "Lorenzo, is it? That suits me just fine. If you can keep me repaired, I'll keep you defended as best as I can. Though I'm not exactly sure what these songs of yours that you speak of can do, but if you can keep up, then we'll be just fine."

She then turned to Hajime. "Special assets, you say? You have my attention. It better be special for something that looks like a lion."

However, they wouldn't have enough time to become fully oriented with the machines as the PA system whined to life and the captain made an announcement.

"Attention all personnel! Prepare for sortie! I repeat, prepare for sortie! We are about to perform atmospheric re-entry in order to attack the Original Hive from above. If you've all decided on a unit, then get yourselves acquainted with it quickly! Lieutenant Lulu and Second Lieutenant Mikoto, please proceed to the bridge of the Yatagarasu."

As everyone boarded their units, a strange squealing sound could be heard over the PA, similar to the sound of a mic making feedback.

"... Testing, testing, one, two, three..."

"What the hell are you doing?! I thought you were going to give us the order to attack!?"

"Attack!? Don't joke with me! My song will work on them too!"

"What the hell kind of nonsense are you talking about no-"

Suddenly, there was the sound of an electric guitar.

Back on the ground, UN forces were confused. Where did the Izumi Valkyries and their Susanoo Yongata end up? They lost contact with them a few minutes ago and couldn't figure out for the life of them as to why a unit as large as the Susanoo could suddenly disappear, but they would soon find that that was the least of their worries.

Satellite feeds from what little spy satellites were in orbit relayed a strange image to the command center: a giant robot hurtling was through the atmosphere with some kind of barrier in front, keeping it from burning up on reentry as well as protecting it from incoming BETA laser fire!

"What the hell is that!? I've never seen anything like it!" one of the radar officers gasped. "How the hell could we have been unable to detect such a massive object!? Is that even one of ours!?"

"I think I'm also picking up some kind of sound from that thing!" another radar officer said as she adjusted some dials on her console to home in on the frequency... "Uh... what?"

"What is it?" The commanding officer of this particular communications unit asked.

"... You're not going to believe this."

When she handed him her headset, he could hear someone singing.

The Macross Cannon charged up between its shoulder pylons before unleashing a powerful stream of energy at one particular point. It wasn't enough to crush the hive, but it did manage to punch a hole through it - a hole that was big enough for a particular ship!

"Go! Yatagarasu Rocket Punch Attack!"

They then launched the Yatagarasu right at the hole, sending it and its occupants into the fray!

"Godspeed, Team Altered Fable! Now we're missing an arm," Jun chuckled.

"Well, at least we're not completely unARMD," Otoha said, referring to the SDF-1's left arm.

"... I hate you so much," Aisia groaned.
