A Changing Song: Another Verse

5 posts in this topic

While the stories of the Singer of Crypton, Arietta Blanc, and the Wandering Dark Hero are often at the top of the headlines, they are not the only people traveling the world. There are hundreds of singers, maybe even thousands, that walk the shattered Earth to bring back joy and life to its inhabitants. They might not do great deeds nor will they be remembered for years to come as a legend to be passed on from generation to generation, but their actions alone are enough for them to be recorded in history and remembered by the music itself. Cornet Espoire, a young singer and trumpeteer, is only one of the many that will grace history's songbook.

Born in the small town of Orange, Cornet Espoire was raised by her grandfather, as both of her parents had died in the Melodist's Wars several years back when Crypton and Zero-FX forces clashed. While she was happy with her life, as her grandfather was kind to her and raised her to be a hardworking, earnest (if not a little easily lovestruck) young girl. She possessed her own Vocaloid, given to her by the gods when she was a teenager and sung her first single, Someday. This is also when the gods smiled upon her and bestowed on her yet another gift. When she was a child, Cornet would often play with dolls and puppets of all kinds, taking care of the toys even when others would have misused them or thrown them away. While she never had the money or the space to have a massive collection, she nevertheless had a few special puppets of her own that she treasured more than anything.

The next day after receiving her Vocaloid, she awoke to the sudden revelation that her favorite puppet, a blond-haired, butterfly-winged fairy she called Kururu, was suddenly alive. Capable of flight, speech, and sometimes rational thought, the fairy was still made out of cloth and thread, but moved like a real human. Not only that, but she had her own Vocaloid as well. One that was much smaller than a standard one, of course, which stood at only five meters, but yet still a Vocaloid that the puppet could pilot. Experimentation with her Vocaloid revealed that Cornet could summon these Puppet Vocaloids at a moment's notice as long as she had connected with the heart of the Doll.

She stayed in her village for several more years, helping out the townsfolk and lifting their spirits by playing her songs and music. She and Kururu made a perfect team, the fantasies of a young, teenage girl kept in check by the short-tempered, quick-hitting fairy. It seemed that their destinies would leave them in the village for the rest of their lives if it wasn't for a chance encounter. Having gone to the local forest to gather up some firewood for Cornet's grandfather, Cornet and Kururu had just finished their task when they were ambushed by bandits. Although they were each individually weak, there was a large number of them and their leader was piloting a particularly fierce, if cutesy, magical girlish Vocaloid. Before Cornet could summon her Vocaloid and mount a resistance, a stranger suddenly burst in and beat back the bandits. The stranger's Vocaloid could aptly be described as a knight in shining armor and when the battle was over, it turned out that the pilot matched the machine.

Cornet was lovestruck by the sight of her prince and before she could even offer her name, the stranger left after giving his name. He was Ferdinand Marl E., the young heir-to-be of a business conglomerate that worked closely with the Rosenqueen Company. These two companies were a major player in the world of singers and electronics and while they weren't as strong as either Crypton or Zero-FX, they functioned as a powerful neutral party in the sometimes conflict that the other two transnational corporations had. With the sight and name of her modern-day prince in her mind, Cornet immediately set out to find a way to get to know him more.

Not exactly the most heroic start of stories, but this was simply one step in a journey that would heal the world.
