Callidora gazed upon the scenery around her from within what she still believed to be some sort of giant or monster. There wasn't a whole lot to see, the location being a vast, almost featureless valley. All around there was grass and patches of flowers, but still nothing to provide a landmark if one needed it, and the sky was just a bit gray, a large cloud looming overhead.
 
"So, we just have to beat these guys and we can go home?"
 
For once, there was someone who could hear her speak from inside here. Sitting nearby behind a perhaps surreal sort of console, no one would have been able to notice that Royalyn was so much younger than the less reserved red-head, considering that she had a good five inches on her and refused to have any posture other than perfect.
 
"That would be correct to assume, yes."
 
Across the field, just barely close enough to be distinctly visible, they could see two other humanoid machines, each perhaps half of the size of the one they both were in at best.
 
"Our assignment, here, to to properly acclimate to become familiar with..."
 
"We're here to fight."
 
Royalyn sighed, slightly annoyed.
 
"I suppose that is how we achieve our objective, though that is far from what it honestly is..."

As he surveyed from his cockpit, Frey began to shuffle within his seat a little, still not used being in a variable fighter. The world always seemed so much smaller from within one of these weapons, so much more fragile. He briefly wondered about what sort of damage these machines were capable of inflicting upon everything around them before he saw his much more massive ally rush forward, signalling the start of the battle.

Tiana sighs as she takes a short mental breather, hoping that old harpy would just give up already, before looking back up - and spotting a couple of other mecha in the distance!

"Grannie, either of these guys that White Devil of-"

She then notices that her 'guests' have launched a pre-emptive welcome party!

"Look out, incoming!" "And just who do you think yer talkin' to? Neither of these runts are the White Devil, I'll handle 'em plenty fine, just you watch! You go run off and do your own thing!"

"Right, right...!"

Readying herself for action, Tiana looks over her opponents and decides to have at the Valkyrie. But before she can do that...

The positioning of the thrusters upon variable fighters in GERWALK took some of the effort out of dodging, but having his person jerked around back-and-forth in various directions producing an unpleasant sensation in his stomach. He just managed to avoid the last punch when he caught sight of the grenade coming his way, making one last thrust to the side to avoid the destructive force of its explosion.

Xemposacez, that's not how thrusters work.

They negate only up to the listed amount once per attack phase defended, not per individual attack in an (X), so the Gatling Punches past the first pass right on through unaffected by the GERWALK thrusters.

Ah, okay. I wasn't exactly sure where to resolve the (X) property of the weapon, but I now see that it's resolved at least before Illusions and Thrusters take effect. Thanks for telling me; I figured something didn't seem right when I was able to reduce the attack's accuracy by so much. I corrected the math.

(From what I understand, Thrusters are the DP equivalent to a Barrier, negating so much DP worth of damage in a single attack phase, so that would mean that it would subtract from the total dealt in that whole phase, right?)

(Yeah, it sounds like your math is indeed correct. Things get resolved in the order of Evade -> Will Commands (Countercut) -> Thrusters.)

So, before I can finalize my next post, there were two things I wanted to have cleared up for future reference.

 

Let's say that, hypothetically, I was going to use the Spirit Command Hot Blood in conjunction with an (H) attack. Would I determine the damage and accuracy of the attack by first applying the appropriate Attribute bonus, then applying Hot Blood to the result of that, then applying the Hissatsu Morale Bonus to that result, or would I add all of the bonuses together before finally applying it to the attack?

 

And secondly, is there a limit on when a Will Command can or cannot be used, such as a certain threshold that it cannot allow Morale to go lower than?

1) You add everything except the spirit bonuses together, with non-attribute bonuses capping out at +50%, then multiply, then add your spirit bonuses together and multiply those.

2) You can use multiple Will Commands per turn, provided that A) it doesn't cause your Morale to dip below 0, and B) as Will Commands are treated as Spirit Commands, unless specified otherwise a unit can't benefit from the same Will Command more than once per turn. (And patch notes are coming that grants such an exception to Countercut, Countershoot, and alikes.)

(Okay, so, I've realized that I did my math wrong when determining the damage and accuracy of the gatling pods, applying the bonuses for using more ammo before the multipliers rather than after. This means the first attack would have dealt 660 damage (462 after blocking; a difference of +126 HP) and 675 damage (473 after blocking; a difference of +157 HP) in their respective order, so go ahead and give the Zaku II back 283 HP. Also, apparently the Morale bonus for (H) attacks is considered a Weapon Effect and therefore added to the end of an attack (I kinda figured it would be, or else there wouldn't have been much point to Break Morale Limit), so I went ahead and did the math for the All-Out Attack, again (4589 Damage, 3623 Accuracy).)

He heard the clash as his machine was taken, nearly torn asunder, and carried off into the distance. Feeling the fresh air brushing against him, no longer knowing the tension of measuring devices and the adrenaline of combat, he prolonged the slowing of his descent for as long as he could allow it, finding an eerie calm in knowing that he couldn't fight any longer.
 
... At least not for today, anyway.

 

(I had forgotten that Callidora was at Level 4 and not Level 1, so her Max SP was off for a bit. Why I keep making such amateurish mistakes I'm not sure.)

Though they had managed to defeat one opponent, the wear on Callidora was evident to Royalyn. She could barely keep her legs from quivering under her own weight, let alone the weight of the machine that she acted as something of a heart for. The Zaku's second shot from its bazooka was reacted to in somewhat less time and with significantly less grace.

Callidora's lack of energy was now clearly showing in the force of her blows, now growing less and less coordinated by the second. In her desperation, she had just enough attentiveness to respond to the firing of the missiles, firing at them with the small vulcans built into her mecha's head in an attempt to shoot them down before she could sustain any significant damage.

 

DEFENSE PHASE

Action Taken: Take (Shoot Down)

Damage Taken: 1196 - 598 (-50% Shoot Down) = 598 x 3 (3 hits) = 1794

Even though she was able to avoid the majority of the destruction they would have caused, they still managed to damage Demonbane considerably and tire her even more. She didn't want to concede, but her will to fight was fading.

 

"Brennan! We must retrieve Solberg and his unit and make a hasty retreat!"

 

"I... I can still..."

 

"No, you cannot! It is clear that your opponent has more experience than you, and I would not count on fortune to see you through a duel with such an adversary whilst so obviously exhausted."

 

She didn't want to accept the words, but Royalyn spoke the truth. Callidora was in way over her head, and all that awaited her was defeat. Not wanting to linger to allow the shame of her next actions to build, she began to flee towards where Frey had been coming down to land. The entire length of the run, she kept her wits about her, expecting a possible shot in the back as she gathered up their comrade and his broken machine.
